STEP 1 – DETERMINE YOUR OBJECTIVE

The first step in creating a memorable donor experience is to put yourself in your donor’s shoes. Imagine how your contributors would want to be recognized. What would make this a memorable, and worthwhile experience for them? Did you make any promises to donors about how they would be recognized? How many donors do you currently have? How many more will you have in 5 years? How many categories do you need? How many donors are in each category?

STEP 2 – CHOOSE YOUR RECOGNITION DESIGN

With your objective figured out, it’s time to choose your recognition design. As you begin to think about this, consider your design needs, and your organization’s budget. Do you need a simple, elegant donor plaque? Do you need a full-size donor wall? Would you like to use a template design to save money? Or do you want something fully custom? Does your budget realistically account for your needs? (Small campaigns may be 5% of the total. Large campaigns can be as low as 0.01% of the campaign goal.)
